Alliance Board Member Beth Monaghan, Co-Founder & Principal of InkHouse, testified this afternoon in support of the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act (bill S.1008) sponsored by State Senator Karen Spilka. Ms. Monaghan spoke from the perspective of a business owner (as well as a mother) stating, “Paid family leave is the right thing to do for the good of our community….Working for a business must be a two-way street. If the business doesn’t support employees in their personal lives, how can we expect employees to support the business in its professional life?” The full testimony is below.
Senator Spilka also proposed bill S.1007, which passed in the House October 23rd. Both are important measures in support of gender equity, as women are far more likely to be caregivers than men, and S.1008 would help keep more women in the workforce.
