Below are some of our most commonly asked questions. If you have any other questions, please contact us and we will get back to you shortly.
What does the Alliance do?
It’s simple: we connect and we lead.
Connecting: We connect progressive business leaders to like-minded peers, establishing a network based on shared values. Then we connect that network with key policymakers and thought leaders so that we can collaborate on developing solutions to long-term social challenges.
Leading: We turn up the volume on the voices of progressive business leaders, and change the perception of where the “business community” stands on issues. We advocate for progressive public policy on Beacon Hill, make ourselves heard in the press, and feature our business leaders at public events in order to advance a socially responsible agenda. What makes the Alliance different?
1. We know how to bring about change. We apply that know-how to big issues like tax fairness, environmental responsibility, pay equity and board diversity, and investing in transportation infrastructure. The Alliance has been a force behind important recent policy changes, including increasing the minimum wage, establishing a state minimum for earned sick time, and creating the Massachusetts Global Entrepreneur in Residence program.
2. We meet you where you are. We understand that business leaders are ridiculously busy. Therefore, everything we do is designed to ensure that our business leaders get maximum value from a minimum investment of time. Come to an Alliance event – it is efficient, meaningful, and on schedule. Work with us to advocate around an issue – we’ll take care of the behind-the-scenes work. Whatever the issue you care about, we offer time-efficient opportunities to advocate for it. Back to Top
Is the Alliance a regional or national organization?
We are a statewide organization based in Massachusetts. While our agenda addresses national and even global issues of importance – such as workplace opportunity and environmental responsibility – our efforts to connect and lead progressive business leaders currently center on Massachusetts. What happened to the Progressive Business Leaders Network?
Founded in 2007, the Alliance’s original name was the Progressive Business Leaders Network (PBLN), a reflection of the group’s role in bringing together like-minded leaders interested in articulating new strategies to redefine the role of business in society. As the organization grew and our mission expanded, we selected a new name – the Alliance for Business Leadership – to communicate the collaborative purpose that brings us together as well as our commitment to create a measurable impact on issues. What do I call the organization now?
